Is there potential for perennial companion cropping?

The June 2012 edition of the ILF monthly webinar series featured Dr. Ken Moore who is a distinguished professor with the Department of Agronomy at Iowa State University.  Dr. Moore presented recent research on “Sustainable Cropping Systems for Harvesting Corn Stover for Biomass”.  He provides a great overview of goals set for renewable energy production by the year 2022, the prospects and challenges associated with future corn biomass/biofuel production systems, and the potential for incorporating perennial cover crops in such systems.  Dr. Moore’s presentation highlights results of research featuring varying types of perennial grasses grown in unison with no-till and strip-till management scenarios.
