Farmers from Iowa and the Ukraine at John Deere in Des Moines.
These farmers, along with ILF team members and the Strip Till Coalition
were learning from each other how strip till works in the different farming systems.
A representative from John Deere contacted ILF to facilitate a meeting between a group of Ukrainian farmers and Iowa farmers so that they could discuss strip-till practices. The Ukrainian farmers represent farms from several thousand hectares to nearly 100,000 hectares. The group was interested in hearing from growers with strip-till experience and the challenges they have faced while implementing the practice. This meeting was an opportunity for the farmers to learn from each other. They covered all topics including equipment, agronomy and enabling technology.
Along with the farmers and ILF team members were representatives from ISU Extension, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the Natural Resources Conservation Services.
