Farmers talk cover crops at PFI

A story in yesterday’s Agri-News reviews the presentations by Iowa farmers Seth Watkins and Tim Smith at the recent Practical Farmers of Iowa annual conference held in Ames Jan. 24-25. They were part of the Iowa Learning Farms track of sessions that addressed the Nutrient Reduction Strategy.

There are several things that farmers and landowners can do to help reduce nutrients entering our waterways, one of which is adding cover crops to your fields’ rotations. Watkins and Smith are using cover crops as well as other practices including strip-tilling, buffers and rotational grazing.
