Iowa Learning Farms Farmer Partner Barry Kusel

Kusel_BarryIt is with great sadness that I have to share the news that one of our really outstanding farmer partners, Barry Kusel, died unexpectedly last Friday, November 21 at age 69.

Barry really embraced farming and conservation. His farm was a wonderful example of how a farm can make a profit and be environmentally sustainable. He was a champion of cover crops. He was always interested in learning new and better ways of doing things. He was also always willing to talk to other farmers about conservation. He traveled throughout western Iowa helping the Iowa Learning Farms spread the message.

Our deepest sympathies go out to his wife Jean, his son Brad, daughter Teri, his mother and all of his grandchildren and extended family! Barry will be missed by all who knew him. Here’s the on-line obituary for Barry:

I was saddened to learn of the death of a fellow dedicated no-tiller and, more importantly, a brother in Christ. Heaven is a better place, and, I suspect, St. Peter will be eliminating tillage in heaven’s vineyards and gardens. Barry was one of “the good guys!”
